AN EARLY GEORGIAN BLACK AND GILT-JAPANNED BUREAU-CABINET, decorated overall with chinoiserie landscapes of courtly figures, pagodas, birds and flowers, the broken segmental pediment with later central urn-finial flanked by two further later urn-finals above a scallop-shell and two panelled shaped arched rectangular doors enclosing a fitted interior with pigeon-holes and drawers around a rectangular concave-fronted niche, flanked by turned half-columns enclosing secret drawers and with lopers beneath, the lower section with hinged flap enclosing a part red-leather-lined writing-surface and pigeon-holes and drawers around a central door above a well, the two short and two long graduated drawers on a moulded plinth and shaped bracket feet, the backboards and feet partially replaced, decoration refreshed, the later lock stamped SECURE PATENT.LEVER
