Lot Essay

Furniture-makers such as J. Egan and J. O'Connor started production in the tourist resort of Killarney to satisfy the demand for nostalgic portrayals of the local sites such as Muckross Abbey (see: D. Fitzgerald, Irish Furniture, Irish Heritage Series, Dublin, 1978)
A lobed centre table of this type was sold by the Kildare Hotel and Country Club, Straffan House, Co. Kildare, Christie's house sale, 28 February 1990, lot 172.
