The present relief is similar in style to the work of Simon Cognoulle of Liège (1687-1744), and his assistant, Antoine Marie Mélotte (1722-1795), both of whom are recorded as having executed a series of panels celebrating the Triumphs of Alexander. A set of six panels by Cognoulle of this subject were sold in These Rooms on Tuesday 11th December, 1979, lot 133.
