Although Hofstede de Groot accepted the present picture as the work of Berckheyde, noting in his copy of the 1925 exhibition catalogue that he considered it 'echt en aardig' (authentic and good), it was identified as the work of Michiel van Musscher by Mr Willem van de Watering in July 1974 on the basis of the illustration in the 1925 exhibition catalogue; he has recently confirmed his opinion from a transparency
