Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Philip Conisbee for identifying this as an early work by Vernet, close in style to Adrien Manglard; he dates it to the late 1730s, around the same time as the pair of views of Naples from the Marinella and from Mergellina in the collection of the Duke of Northumberland at Alnwick
