While the head and pose of the Christ Child and the treatment of the Madonna's dress and cape relate the present picture to the Madonna formerly in the Saurma Collection, Berlin (L. Pagnotta, Giuliano Bugiardini, Turin, 1987, pp. 205-6, no. 33, illustrated), the head and gesture of the young Baptist are similar to those in a painting of the same subject in an Italian private collection (ibid., p. 223, no. 71, illustrated)
