Lot Essay

A version dated 1651 was in Zurich in 1992, another was at Sotheby's, Florence, 24 May 1983, lot 574, and a copy is recorded on the Madrid art market. Dr Mary Newcome, judging from a photograph, considers the present picture superior to those in quality; we are grateful to her for her assistance
