gouache heightened with gold on paper, the dappled horse, in a red rug, tethered and hobbled, stands while the groom washes its tail in a bowl of water, (slight flaking), signed below (illegible), in a minor rope-pattern border and one of calligraphy and illuminated panels within coloured margins and rules, on gold-sprinkled green card
miniature 5¾ x 8½in. (14.4 x 21.5cm.)

Lot Essay

Both the style and the handwriting are in the style of Mu'in. The date would also be consistent with the end of his working career.

It is a subject well-known through frequent subsequent copies.
