We are grateful to Mr. Ludwig Meyer of the Archiv fuer Kunstgeschichte, Munich, for pointing out that another version of the present lot, attributed to Lucas Cranach II, is in the Fuerstenberg Collection, Donaueschingen. Mr Meyer also compares the present lot with a woodcut by Lucas Cranach II, dated 1551, also depicting John Frederick of Saxony (Holstein 35).
