This picture may relate to a series of Heads painted by Subleyras which we know were hung on the walls of his studio from his picture L'atelier, now in the Akademie, Vienna (see O. Michel and P. Rosenberg, catalogue of the exhibition Subleyras, Musée du Luxembourg, Paris and elsewhere, 1987, p. 130, fig. 1).
