Sale room notice
We are grateful to Mr. Ludwig Meyer of the Archiv fuer Kunstgeschichte, Munich, for pointing out that the sitter can be identified as Karl-Joseph, Prince de Ligne (1735-1814). The costume and pose of the sitter are identical with those in an unattributed oil sketch of the same subject in the Wallace Collection, London, where the sitter is depicted at an earlier age.
