The Crowned Circle "PAID AT DOMINICA" Handstamp S.G. CC 1
The use of this handstamp may be divided into three distinct periods; 1845-58 before Great Britain stamps were sent to the Colony; 1858-60 when it was occasionally used in conjunction with Great Britain stamps until their withdrawal in May 1860; 1860-74 when re-introduced for regular use until Dominica's adhesives were issued.
cover 1858 (11 Sep.) mourning XU5 to St. Andrews and re-directed to Crieff; rated "6" in red and showing good red Crowned circle "PAID /AT/DOMINICA" (RL PS1) to denote pre-payment and "LONDON/CV/OC 2/58/PAID" transit c.d.s.; backstamped "DOMINICA/11/SP/1858" and upon arrival in Scotland; sealed tears at left well away from handstamps.
