Stuart Franklin started photography at the age of 17 and became a professional photographer in 1978 working in London for the British press. He has worked extensively in Northern Ireland, Ethiopia, Sudan and in Central and South America. After the fall of the Shah he cycled across Iran documenting the social changes. His work has appeared in the Sunday Times, Life, Geo, Paris-Match, Stern and the Times. In 1985 he won the Christian Aid award for Humanitarian photography and in 1989 the Tom Hopkinson Prize for Photojournalism.
