Lot Essay

Leonard Freed learned photography while travelling in Europe and North Africa in the 1950s. He made his first film using animated photographs in 1962 and 1963. His other projects have included photographing blacks in America (1964-65) and covering the Six Day War and its aftermath in Israel in 1967 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973. In 1980 he taught photography at the New School for Social Research in New York where he lives.
