Burt Glinn was the photographer and picture editor for The Harvard Crimson, while studying at the university. Between 1949 and 1950 he worked for Life magazine prior to becoming freelance. Besides being president of Magnum from 1972 to 1975, he was president of the American Society of Magazine Photographers (1980-81) and again became president of Magnum in 1987. He has photographed throughout the world especially in Russia and Japan.
