Guy Le Querrec began photographing jazz musicians in Paris in 1962, but became a photographer in 1968. He became staff photographer and picture editor for Jeune Afrique in 1969, joining the agency Vu in 1971 and co-founding Viva. He directed the first Atelier de la Ville de Paris at the Lycée Henri IV in 1980 and in 1983 coordinated the Jazz and Photo exhibition in Arles.
