Lot Essay

Wayne Miller worked as a part-time photographer while studying at University in Illinois. From 1946 he began working as a freelance photographer and teacher of photography in Chicago. He worked at Life magazine from 1949 to 1953, became a member of Magnum in 1958 and its president from 1962 to 1966. In 1975 he retired from professional photography and has devoted himself to farming and forestry ever since.
