Lot Essay
Inge Morath worked as an editor, translator and interpreter and was first associated with Magnum as a writer and researcher in 1949, working with fellow Austrian Ernst Haas. She began to photograph in 1951 while living in London and became associated with Magnum as a photographer in 1953. From the late 1950s she travelled to Iran, Tunisia, Russia and China. Her work has been widely exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, in Vienna, Zürich, New York, Moscow and Madrid.
