Lot Essay

Nollekens executed two busts of the Duke of Wellington. The first copy was based on the bust of 1809 by Nolleken's assistant's brother, Lawrence Gahagan. Later versions of a slightly different type are at Apsley House, Stratfield Saye, Woburn Abbey and elsewhere. An enamel copy was also made by Grimaldi for Wedgewood for 25 guineas
