Album of fifty-two warm-toned gelatin silver prints, approx. 8 x 8in., or the reverse, mounted by corners on paper, initialled and dated GWH, /08 with captions in pencil on mounts, inscribed in ink Florence Graig Albrecht from George Watson Hewitt, April 7th 1909 on flyleaf, full brown morocco, ruled in gilt, g.e., 4to.

Lot Essay

By profession, George Watson Hewitt was an architect with a strong interest in photography. In 1872, he became a member of the Photo Society of Philadelphia and in 1879 he became the Vice President. Examples of his work are in the collection of the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester, USA. This album is of a european tour undertaken by the photographer and includes Brussels, Rome, Pisa, Venice, Nurnberg, Rothenberg, Cologne, Bruges, Antwerp, Amsterdam and the Swiss Alps.
