Lot Essay

The present owner's family was involved in the spirit church and were apparently quite friendly with Mr. Hope who was co-founder of the Crewe Circle which carried out many spiritualist and supernormal photographs. These also bear a stylistic resemblance to photographs by Hope sold in these rooms on Nov. 1, 1990 as part of the collection of the Late Cyril Permutt.
