A similar stool is illustrated in Léon de Groer Les Arts Décoratifs de 1790 à 1850, Fribourg, 1985, p. 153, fig. 295. Inspired by the designs for 'antique stools' illustrated in C. Percier and P. Fontaine, in their Recueil de Décorations Interieures, Paris 1801, no. 5, these stools are related to those supplied for the Château de Fontainebleau, (sold anonymously, Sotheby's Monaco, 26 November 1979, lot 222)
