Lot Essay

These chairs closely resemble a pair stamped by Georges II Jacob and his brother François-Honoré-Georges, the Jacob frères, who traded from 1796 - 1803 at rue Meslée. The Jacob pair are inlaid with ebony clasps beneath the Egyptian heads and with confronting swans on the seat-rails. See: D. Ledoux-Lebard, Les Ebénistes du XIXe siècle, Osny, 1984, p. 268. Another similar pair was sold in these Rooms, 10 December 1987, lot 67, and a single bergère on 8 June 1989, lot 98
