The form of this chair is a development of an English type dating from the first half of the 18th Century, but now with upholstered back. A chair of the same design is in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, (no: R.B.K. 16552) and is illustrated in R. Baarsen, Dutch Furniture 1600-1800, Amsterdam, 1993, pp. 106-107
