Lot Essay

The bases are inspired by an antique brazier discovered at Pompeii and now in the Royal Museum at Naples. Bronze reductions of this model were manufactured by the sculptor J. Chiurazzi, whose foundry was established in 1870 (cf. a pair sold anonymously in these Rooms, 4 June 1992, lot 182)
