Of traditional form, the sides engraved with Russian inscriptions and a portrait of Empress Elizabeth within foliate scroll cartouches, the domed centre repoussé, chased and engraved with the double-headed eagle, the prow with pierced double-headed eagle finial, the flattened handle cast chased and engraved with the crowned monogram of Elizabeth Petrovna within foliate border, apparently unmarked

Lot Essay

The inscription reads: By grace of God we Elizabeth the First Empress and autocrat of all Russias etc etc etc grant this kovsh to the Starshin of the Don Cossack Army Sidor Sebrakov for his faithful service 22 December 1749.
