Lot Essay

With its characteristically figured frieze and handsome, plain design, this side table typifies furniture in the George III 'antique' manner produced by Messr's Gillows of Lancaster. In the 1840 inventory, it is listed in The Hall as 'Ditto (mahogany side table) with top inlaid with spe-cimens of Italian marble'
