The central tablet in the fresco from the House of the Dioscuri, discovered in Pompeii in 1819, shows a scene from the Tojan wars as recounted in Homer's Iliad. Thetis having attempted to protect her son, concealed him in girl's clothes at the Court of Scyros. But Achilles reveals himself, when Odysseur disguised as a merchant offers him a chorle of jewels or arms. Achilles takes up the arms and is persuaded to join Agamenanon's army.
