Lot Essay
Hester Sandys, later Lady Temple, was the wife of Thomas Temple, who was knighted in June 1603 and created a baronet on 24 Sepember 1611. Hester was the daughter of Miles Sandys of Latimer, Bucks. There were two members of the Sandy family called Miles : the first Sir Miles (1563-1644) was a son of Dr Edwin Sandys (see lot ), and was created baronet in 1612; the other Sir Miles (1601-1636), was the auther of 'Prudence' and other works.
Lady Temple died in 1656, leaving four sons and nine daughters. She was an ancestor of the Brooke side of the Langford Brooke family.
