Lot Essay

Daniel Clowes was born in Chester. His patrons seemed to be almost entirely nearby and included the Egertons at Oulton Park, the Stanleys of Hooton Hall and the Grosvenors of Eaton Hall; he also painted four pictures of dogs and two of hunters for the Earl of Stamford at Dunham Massey.
