Lot Essay

Born in Poland, Fritz Preiss studied in Berlin and Paris, working there in the inter-war years and building up a reputation as one of the foremost exponents of the chryselephantine bronze. His figures of long-limbed amazons, sportswomen, nudes and dancers, such as the present example, are often gilded or enamelled.
