COCKBURN, James Pattison (1779?-1847). Views of the route of Mont Cenis. Drawn... by Major Cockburn; and on stone by C. Hullmandel. London: Thomas Davison for Rodwell & Martin, 1822.

2° (466 x 320mm). Letterpress title and plate list. 50 lithographed plates after Cockburn, drawn on stone by Charles Hullmandel and J.D. Harding and printed by Hullmandel. (Small tear to image area of plate 22 'Pass near Espiere, Savoy', occasional light marginal spotting.) Red cloth gilt (lightly soiled, recased, modern endpapers, resewn).

An interesting series forming a pictorial chronicle of a journey from Lyons via an alpine route through Savoy and Piedmont to Turin. The 50th plate, listed as 'Hospice on the summit of the Mount Cenis', has been replaced by 'Turin, from the road to Superga'. Not in Abbey or Tooley.
