Details
cover 1845 (8 Nov.) entire letter from Avignon to Scotland. The interesting contents make reference to the Malta packet--"about the steamers from Marseilles to Malta--our English one goes twice a month in the mornings of the 11th and 28th according to the arrival of mails made up in London on the 3rd and 24th. Besides this there are now French steamers three times a month direct to Malta--and on to Alexandria--which are said to be excellent. They leave Marseilles the 4th, 14th and 24th of every month and reach Malta on the forenoon of the 7th, 17th and 27th. The other French steamers go round Italy and take six or seven days".
