'Two of (Atkinson) Grimshaw's sons, Arthur and Louis, painted, but Arthur was more interested in a career in music, and, rather than abandon his vocation, left home in order to compose, and at the same time take up the post of organist at St Anne's Cathedral, Leeds. Louis Grimshaw was the most successful of his father's followers, and assisted him towards the end of his life. He later copied some of Atkinson Grimshaw's compositions but gave them his own colour harmonies. However, even Louis's reputation as an artist did not long outlast the turn of the century.'
