A PAIR OF PARIS BURNISHED-GOLD-GROUND CAMPANA-SHAPED VASES painted with Dutch peasants in interiors, one with a smiling man and woman playing a game over the top of a barrel, his pipe tucked into his hat and issuing a plume of smoke, the other vase with a woman seated in a wooden chair, the man inviting her to replenish her glass from a stoneware jug, within square cartouches chased with laurel, the reverses with chased gilt vases of fruit and leaves flanked by confronting swans and arabesques of scrolling foliage, the handles with satyr's mask terminals, on spreading stems and square bases (covers lacking, the first vase with some re-gilding to top of cartouche, the second vase restored, some wear to gilding), circa 1830-1840
