Lot Essay

This cornice enrichment, with the Royal arms of King George III displayed on an oak-wreathed medallion, was executed at the Lambeth works shortly after John Sealy (d.1821) had established his partnership with Eleanor Coade (d.1821) in 1799. A Royal coat of arms is listed in Mrs Coade's, catalogue, 1784 p. 14 no. 429 at a cost of ¨15.15.0. A related coat of arms was sold by Christie's at Wrotham Park, 9 november 1993 lot 78.
