Lot Essay

The present work is related to, and indeed the model may be the same girl who posed for Gilman's Nudes of 1911-2; 'Nude seated on a Bed' (Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester), 'The Model Reclining Nude' (Arts Council of Great Britain), and 'Nude on a Bed' (Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge). The identity of the girl is unknown but she may have been the 'chere amie' of Gilman who also modelled for Ethel Sands in 1912
