MEGILLAH ESTHER [Scroll of Esther], in Hebrew, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM.

160 x 3825mm. 10 membranes, square Oriental script in sepia ink, each column of text bordered by geometric motifs and lines in green, yellow, orange and blue ink, the first column preceded by a panel of geometric decoration and bordered by triangles, eight-pointed stars, rhomboids and roundels, further elaborate decoration at chapter 9, v.6, with the text arranged in two single-word columns (naming the towns destroyed by the Jews). (Occasional slight smudging of coloured borders, final membrane soiled, a few words erased, some re-inscribed at an early period.)
