INDULGENCES -- Lenten certificate of confession and absolution, in Latin, issued by the Augustinians. [London: Richard Pynson(?),] 1517.

Oblong 8° (118 x 170mm. max). Gothic type in two founts, 10 lines, woodcut papal insignia within double border (50 x 40mm). Complete, with wide margins on three sides (very slight worming). Provenance: contemporary manuscript annotations in two hands, one in the lower margin in Latin with quotations from Christ's teachings; bought by Lord Kenyon, Sotheby's 21 March 1966, lot 26. STC 14077c.1

With: Fragmentary indulgence in English, granted by Boniface IX on behalf of the chapel of Saint John Baptist, North Newington, near Broughton, Oxfordshire, giving three years and three Lents of pardon to those who visit the chapel every year at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, and help with its construction and maintenance, and further seven-year indulgences for larger contributions.
