Lot Essay

Although not a contemporary of Goya, Lucas was nevertheless a devoted follower of the master's style, focusing more on large crowd scenes, processions and bull ring subjects than on portraiture. Although not directly related to any specific compositions, the present drawing is very much alike in the bright colours and muted browns that the artist favoured in his oil paintings
