Lot Essay

Another example of this model, which also includes an infant satyr standing at Bacchus's feet, is in the Württembergische Landesmuseum, Stuttgart, and is described by Weihrauch as 'Florence, middle of the 16th Century' (Weihrauch, loc. cit.). The facture of the present bronze would, however, suggest a later date, possibly of the 18th century.
