Lot Essay

The 'Eros' hoops with enlarged heads are typical of the Eastern fringes of the Classical world. For a pair of similar earrings, allegedly from Haftashan on the Iran/Iraqi border, cf. Christie's, London, 16 July 1985, lot113. For another example, formerly in the Nelidow collection and found in Asia Minor, cf. L. Pollak, Klassisch-antike Goldschmiedearbeiten, Leipzig, 1903, no. 74
