The menorah or seven-branched candlestick is one of the central symbols of Judaism. A monumental golden menorah stood in the Second Temple built by Herod the Great, until it was carried off as booty by the Roman legions in 70 A.D., following the destruction of the Temple and, as such, is depicted on Titus' arch in Rome. It makes a widespread appearance in Jewish art from about the 3rd Century A.D. onwards
