This argand-lamp lantern, with its ribbon-fretted cresting and jewel-embossed escutcheons with spiked finials accompanied by elaborately etched panes, is designed in the 'Old English' or Elizabethan manner popularised by the architect Richard Bridgens with his Furniture with Candelabra and Interior Decoration, 1832
