Lot Essay

Although he had some professional instruction, Bartholomew was largely self-taught. He worked for Charles Hullmandel, the lithographer from 1821-1827 and in 1826 he exhibited a flower piece at The Royal Academy. Bartholomew was appointed Flower Painter to the Duchess of Kent in 1836 and Flower Painter in Ordinary to the Queen in 1837
