The dining-chair pattern with Grecian 'klismos' back and broad tablet crest-rail above scrolled and horizontal ribbon-splats that are tied by a flowered patera, derives from a French-style chair designed for the connoisseur Thomas Hope (d. 1832) and illustrated in his Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807, pl.
