Lot Essay

Mesnard was the official artist to the Dupetit-Thouars circumnavigation of 1836-9. After a lengthy hydrographic survey of the Mexican coast, the Vénus anchored off Acapulco for two weeks in January 1838 before setting sail for Easter Island
