CHATEAU WOLTNER AND OTHER NEW WORLD WINES Now lying London, S.E.1 Offered duty-paid, but available in bond Sample bottles of the majority of the wines will be available at the pre-sale tasting The Château Woltner estate was purchased by Francis and Francoise Dewavrin-Woltner in the late 1980s. The 181-acre property however had a long history of winemaking dating back as far as 1866, when the vineyards were established by two French vignerons, M. Brun and M. Chaix. They enjoyed considerable success but the production was finally halted by the onset of Prohibition. Following the Woltner's acquisition, an extensive programme of renovation and replanting was instigated at the Howell Mountains estate with over 55 acres of new vineyards now in full production specialising in top-quality Chardonnays. These vineyards are situated on slopes between 1600 and 1800 feet above sea level in the hills to the East of the Napa Valley. The microclimat is unique and varies according to the precise location of each block of vines. The finest of the named vineyards are Titus, Frederique and St. Thomas alongside the Woltner Estate and Reserve bottlings. The range offered here dates back to 1985, the property's first year of commercial production under the new ownership. The wines are barrel-fermented and matured in hogsheads of French oak
