Thomas Gell (1594-1656), son of Thomas Gell of Hopton, Derbyshire and Millicent, daughter of Rachel Sacheverell (b. 1593), Bencher of the Inner Temple, recorder and M.P. for Derby. He served with distinction under his brother John, during the Civil War in 1645
