Sir Philip Gell (1651-1719), son of Sir John Gell (died 1689) and his wife Katherine Packer of Donnington Castle married Elizabeth Fagg, daughter of Sir John Fagg of Wiston, Sussex. They had no issue. Sir Philip was M.P. for Derbyshire in 1689 and travelled to Turkey bringing back with him a number of Arab horses with which he started a stud at Hopton
